Alexis Herrera Estevez

Alexis Herrera Estevez was born in Guantánamo, the cradle of Cuban “Soneros”. At the age of eight, he started his career as a percussionist, taking lessons at the local music school. As a natural talent, he soon started to teach percussion himself, acquiring a well-renowned status as a timbales musician. A few years later, he became a member of the municipal orchestra. He performed with celebrated jazz and salsa artists including Compay Segundo, the guitarists of the legendary Buena Vista Social Club. In 1997, Herrera Estevez joined the »Havanna Ensemble«, one of the best and most innovative Latin jazz ensembles of Cuba. Within the ensemble, he perfected his skills on the timbales, astounding the audience with his extraordinary intuition for rhythm along with his explosive style of performing.

Today he is touring Germany and the world as a member of two very acclaimed ensembles: »Klazz Brothers & Cuba Percussion« and »Cuba Nova«.
